The Eton Rifles
Paul Carnaby is now back in the UK after performing for the last 10 years in Benidorm in his well known Mod band Carnaby Street. His latest and boldest project a tribute to the Jam called The Eton Rifles. Authentic, energetic and passionate they capture not just the sound but the whole ethos of The Jam whilst bringing their own uniqueness and style into the fray. In fact it has been said that Paul Carnaby channels the young Paul Weller better than he could do himself these days. A real life passion for the music and lyrics fuses a nostalgic look back at the 80s Mod generation with something contemporary that is happening right now. The Eton Rifles are now available for bookings throughout the UK and Europe. To get in contact message via their FB page: www.facebook.com/TheEtonRifles/ You can see The Eton Rifles play next at: The Talbot, 65 Church street, Burnley, Lancashire, 17th December 2016. Free entrance from 9.30pm.

Norwich Collective Annual Egg Run
This weekend sees the 2016 Norwich Collective Annual Egg Run. The route starts at the Heartsease Open Academy, Salhouse Road Norwich and ends at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital’s Children’s Ward. Scooterists will start to gather from 9am and will depart Heartsease at 11:30am. There are 2016 Paddy Smith patches for sale, various trophies and a burger van for breakfast, teas and coffee. Plus a collection. This year all proceeds will go to The East Anglian Air Ambulance. Here are a few pictures from last year.
Two New Sidecars for 2016
Another introduction for 2016 is the Zanzara, a version of the lightweight Meteor sidecar, designed to be fitted to the GTS 250/300 scooters from Vespa. Zanzara is the Italian word for mosquito, a reference to the sidecar body, which was originally based on the shape of reserve fuel tanks from the famous RAF Mosquito aircraft. It also seemed an appropriate name for a sidecar designed to be fitted to a ‘wasp’ (vespa means wasp in Italian). Watsonian had to develop a special chassis and sub-frame to attach the sidecar to scooter’s pressed steel frame, and fitted it with a 12” Vespa front wheel for balance. The mudguard is the deeply valenced Classic shape, which first appeared in 1955, and the fold-down aero screen completes the period appearance. The seat tilts forward to provide access to storage space behind. It weighs approximately 65 kg. Images to follow.

Updated! Coasters Scooter Rally 19 – 20 June 2015
Coasters 6th Annual Scooter Rally at our NEW venue – Langham Community Centre / Recreation Ground. (Photos provided by Owen Phillips) After 5 years at Felixstowe; this year the Coasters Scooter Club decided a change venue was needed, so the sleepy village of Langham in Essex was picked. This year their choice of charity was E.A.C.H (East Anglian Children’s Hospice). Friday Arriving at Langham Community Centre, I was very surprised to see how nice it was and how busy it was already becoming. After dismounting my trusty steed, I was given my wristband, bought my patch and proceeded to wander around the site. Many more arrived on the gate and it was nice to see more scooters than the ‘4’ wheelers that usually turn up for rallies nowadays. The normal meet and greets were taking place and the weather was holding up well so of course this made for a nice social drinking atmosphere! The Coasters had laid on entertainment for the evening; with a couple of bands The Kopy Kats and Toot ‘n’ Skamen. Mark Anthony was compare for the weekend and he first introduced the local Langham Choir who kicked things off. It was a little different but […]

Iconic Mopeds of the 70s and 80s
Do you have fond memories of the iconic Yamaha FS1E, or Fizzy, as it was commonly known? It turns 40 this year and to celebrate, specialist motorbike insurance broker Bikesure has taken a look at the iconic mopeds of the 70s and 80s. Bikesure encouraged us to take a trip down memory lane with an in-depth look at their favourite mopeds of the past, from the Vespa 50 Special to the Honda SS50. Here at the Scooter Directory we’re passionate about anything on two wheels, and felt quite nostalgic looking at the mopeds they’d chosen. We even spotted a couple of our old favourites in the Iconic Mopeds feature, which you can find on the Bikesure blog here.

Mods and Scooters Exhibition
On Saturday we launched our ‘Mods & Scooters’ Exhibition showing a range of paintings borne from this fantastic era. The artist is Mike Jackson, a larger-than-life Manchester lad who now lives and works in the West Country. We’ve worked with Mike since the gallery opened in 2007 and his work hangs in homes and offices up and down the country, bringing smiles and happy memories to many. Watercolour features strongly in the collection although Mike works just as well in acrylic and in oils. Each piece has its own character and generates its own response from the viewer. For some it is the look of a piece that catches the attention and for some it is the collection as a whole that brings the memories flooding back! We were delighted that some guys from nearby York used the exhibition as an excuse for a ride out and the street outside was soon full of brightly coloured machines, each sporting their own name and creating an instant rapport with the locals! The oldest machine was a 1961 Lambretta named ‘Pressure Drop’ and her proud owner told me her type was affectionately known as a ‘fat lass’. Her turquoise paintwork shone in […]
Looking good and feeling great
Scooterists by their very nature like to look cool; some of them even manage to carry the look off, whilst others fail. It’s a compromise between looking good and being safe, warm, dry and practical so here are a few kit ideas that might be worth a look this summer. Knox Studio Collection Knox are widely regarded as the experts when it comes to bike protection, not surprising really because they pretty much invented it! Their new for 2015 ‘Studio Collection’ is packed with great looking, practical kit and they’re perfect for scooter riders. The collection includes this stylish Leonard Wax jacket (£249.99), a soft modern wax cotton jacket. Modern means the wax won’t leave oily marks on your jeans, it’s a clean fabric that looks good, is waterproof and wears well. I’ve been using one for a few months and I love it. It’s the kind of jacket that looks just as good down the pub as on the scooter. The clever thing is that it comes with a separate armoured vest (£99.99) so you wear the vest for protection and simply take it off so you don’t look like you’ve been bodybuilding when you get to the rally. […]
North Yorkshire – Probably the best scooter ride-out in the world
In summer 2014 the Tour de France invaded some of the most beautiful, wild and challenging landscapes in North Yorkshire for a spectacular two-stage road racing event. It drew thousands of spectators who enjoyed much more than the spectacle of the world’s toughest cyclists roaring past in a blur of colour and sweat. The Yorkshire landscape took the first prize in all its extraordinary glory. And it paved the way for some of the most dramatic scooter ride-out opportunities in the country. If you’re searching for scooter ride-out excellence you can’t beat the legendary 2014 Tour de France route through the Yorkshire Dales, following in the footsteps of those two-wheeled heroes and giving the experience an entirely new slant. Sometimes vast, empty and bleak, sometimes lush and green and secret, North Yorkshire is a scooter rider’s paradise. Here’s a run-down of the Tour de France route to whet your appetite. Point yourself north, pack a picnic, dress up to the nines in your best Mod finery and try this one on for size. He / she who dares, wins! Tour de France-inspired scooter ride-outs in the Yorkshire Dales Ride out through beautiful Upper Wharfedale Grassington – A pretty village surrounded […]

Changes to the current driving licence
Looks like a major change is coming for all driving licence holders. From 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart to the “photo card” driving licence will not be valid and won’t be issued by the DVLA. The paper counterpart will carry no legal status and can be destroyed after the 8 June 2015. However you still need to keep your current “photo card” license. To find out more please visit the DVLA website.
Chasing the Wind: A Quadrophenia Anthology
Chasing the Wind: A Quadrophenia Anthology is an illustrated book written by Gary Wharton which documents all the elements of Quadrophenia, a cult British film which tells the story of young Mod Jimmy Cooper (perfectly played by Phil Daniels) and his struggle for self-knowledge in amongst a bunch of friends. Set in the London and significantly, Brighton of 1965, all the locations are detailed and rounded off by an extensive A to Z collection of all things relating to the film, from the actors involved, the music of The Who and others which plays such an integral part and not forgetting the fashions, the drugs, the scooters, the Mods, the decade and innumerable connections are all here in an comprehensive, fully-illustrated guide. Following Jimmy and his Mod mates on their weekend down in Brighton, the trip proves to be unforgettable. Quadrophenia remains a timeless tale perfectly carried off by a young cast led by Phil Daniels, Leslie Ash, Phil Davis, Toyah Willcox and Sting in an early role as a leading Mod ‘Ace’ Face. Ably supported by a host of familiar faces including Mark Wingett, Ray Winstone, John Altman and Michael Elphick. Chasing the Wind includes a full story breakdown […]
Record Store Day at Scoots, Suits and Boots
On Saturday 18th April, we held an event to launch IQ Tunes and to celebrate the first anniversary of Scoots Suits and Boots opening the shop, as it coincided with Record Store Day. It is only the first stage of the record shop, and in a few weeks we will be expanding into an area at the rear of the shop, currently used as a storage area. Amongst the eclectic line up was a community choir, as well as Indie and Punk artistes Tony Daly, Matthew Cummings, Ben Warwick, Son Primo Accoustic and Ryan Jarvis. This was all held together by floor shaking sets of Northern Soul, Sixties Club Soul and British Beat, courtesy of Lancashire Soul Corporations “Big Shed”. As well as many regular customers, many turning up on Lambretta and Vespa scooters, we also had many new customers drawn to the vinyl in the record shop. We drew customers from as far afield as Shrewsbury and Wrexham, and the shop was mad busy all day. We took the opportunity to give customers a first look at the Shari Denson collection of fine art photographic prints. Shari’s collection includes exclusive images of icons such as Paul Weller, Ian Brown […]
Scoots Suits and Boots Ltd
My name is Mick Harwood, and I am a Director of Scoots Suits and Boots Ltd. We have been trading for six years, and twelve months ago we added a “bricks and mortar” shop in Oldham. we have been going from strength to strength and we have a very loyal following of customers both online and in the shop. We stock a mixture of clothing and footwear, with a strong Sixties and Seventies flavour. We also stock scooter riding wear. For the first time in years I am without a scooter as I spend 13 out of 14 days in the shop. I’ll be back though, you can be sure of that. At the moment we are beavering away on our latest project, a second hand vinyl “shop within a shop”. We are having our official opening on Saturday 18th April, and we will be celebrating with bands, DJs and an abundance of scooters. I am going to do a regular blog, about what we get upto in the shop and the “word on the street” amongst our local scooter scene. K.O.K.O Mick Harwood

Welcome to the Scooter Directory!
The scooter directory was set up in April 2015 as a resource for Scooter Riders, a place for Businesses to list their products and services and for Events to have some decent online exposure. Being rally going scooterists ourselves since the 80’s we understand how frustrating it is to find scooter related products and services and what events are going on. We also know as event organisers and business owners there are very few places to advertise and to reach our target audience. As the directory is so new we don’t have all the bits up and running yet but have lots more components to follow in the coming months; however we do welcome your suggestions. Please email us with your thoughts and ideas to email@example.com. So what do we offer? For businesses Free & Full Listings; these give a pin on the map and somewhere for customer to add their reviews. Advertising opportunities including monthly competitions and website banners. A blog to post your latest news. For events Full listings on the event page. What else will we do! We will also post regularly on our Social Media pages promoting the website and your listings. We will send a […]
